Norway: Free abortion to week 12. After week 12, the woman must make an application for abortion.

Denmark: Free abortion to week 12. After week 12, the woman must apply for abortion at a court. Pregnancy must be a risk to the woman’s life or her physical or mental health for abortion to be allowed.

Faroe Islands: Abortion can be granted if there is a danger to the woman’s life, rape or malnutrition at the fetus. If the woman is married, the man must consent to the abortion. Abortion can take place until week 16.

Finland: Abortion is granted until week 12 if there is a danger to the woman’s life, to protect her mental health, for economic and social reasons and for incest or rape. Abortion is allowed up to week 20 at risk of female physical health or if the woman is under 17 years of age. Abortion can be granted up to week 24 if the woman’s life is in danger or in malnourishment of the child.

Germany: Free abortion up to week 12. The woman must receive counseling for 3 days prior to surgery. This counseling shall inform the woman of the child’s right to life and try to convince the woman to continue pregnancy. Abortion is not paid by the state except for low income women. Abortions also include punishment for those who force the woman to abort.

United Kingdom: Abortion is legal in England, Wales and Scotland when a woman’s economic, social or health situation is at risk. Two healthcare professionals must ensure that the criteria is met. Abortion can be granted up to week 24.

Northern Ireland: Abortion can only be granted when the woman’s health is at risk.

The Netherlands: Free abortion up to week 13. 5 days need to pass between the time she applies for an abortion until the procedure takes place. Abortion after week 13 is granted if the woman claims she is distressed.
